Baylor University - Modifying operations practices realizes significant savings for Baylor
Since 2000, Baylor University has reaped the benefits of one of higher education's most successful facilities management engagements. The university has leveraged its relationship with ARAMARK to support its "2012" vision of entering the top tier of American universities.
Baylor possesses one of the most successful energy management programs in the nation. By modifying operating practices, the university realized $460,000 in cash savings in the first 12 months and avoided $2.1 million in the program's first three years. ARAMARK conducted an electrical master plan that resulted in the installation of an electric substation to meet the university's needs for the next 50 years. The substation is responsible for saving Baylor annual electricity cost savings of $600,000. ARAMARK also initiated an industry-leading, award-winning electric procurement contract will reduced Baylor's energy cost by 35%, saving Baylor more than $20 million over the next 10 years. Finally, to maintain consumption reduction, an Energy Awareness Education Campaign has been implemented across campus.
In support of the Baylor 2012 initiative, the University expanded the campus by more than 1.5 million gross square feet. To ensure these new buildings use minimal capital and operating resources, ARAMARK served as the university's dedicated commissioning agent. Documented cost avoidance from these efforts are in excess of $2 million, with a return on investment of 45%.
Baylor's partnership with ARAMARK has allowed the university to elevate its facility services, reap financial rewards, and enhance its unique campus experience.

Upper Canada College - Leveraging aramark expertise in dining and facilities operations
Canada's most prestigious preparatory boarding school for boys, Upper Canada College (UCC) , is located in the heart of Toronto. UCC values diversity and is actively engaged in building a school that reflects a variety of backgrounds. Since 2000, ARAMARK Higher Education has been UCC's foodservice provider and has been an active partner across campus.
In 2007, the College wanted to combine the dining and housekeeping services under one management company. UCC realized they could leverage synergies to improve efficiencies with their sister school, Bishop Strachan School (BSS), by sharing labor resources across the campuses. ARAMARK recognized the opportunity to minimize costs and improve overall service if they brought the housekeeping service in-house for both campuses. Later in 2007, UCC awarded ARAMARK the bundled services for both schools because of their long-standing relationship and superior customer service.
Upper Canada College's approach of leveraging synergies across the schools is unique among higher education institutions, however, has proven to be effective in reducing costs with significant improvements. ARAMARK Higher Education made the housekeeping services more efficient by increasing campus cleanliness and streamlining the management across two campuses to better support the custodial staff and needs of the clients. In addition to streamlining labor, ARAMARK also implemented the quad care program that leverages a "cross-functional" task team to clean a space, with designated experts. The quad care program has saved UCC approximately $60,000 annually with an additional $100,000 forecasted in the second year due to labor hour reduction.

Geneva College - ARAMARK designed Energy Performance Program resulted in over $500k in savings
On behalf of Geneva College, ARAMARK Higher Education designed an energy performance program to address immediate infrastructure needs and optimize operating procedures. ARAMARK Higher Education provided the capital required to replace outdated steam lines and address deferred maintenance and infrastructure repairs. Additionally, maintenance staff were properly trained on system operation. This program has resulted in over $560,000 in savings achieved to date. The corresponding energy management program included the initiation of a major holiday curtailment program and training of staff on shutdown procedures. Overall the energy program has reduced fossil fuel consumption and water consumption by 18% and 11% respectively.
